Hello again Family and Friends,
Andy’s surgery went okay… A lot longer then any one had anticipated. We got to the hospital at 6:15am on 6/25. We expected it to be over with in 3 hours of him going in the OR. Andy ended up being in the OR for almost 6 hours. Dr. Richie said that his nerves were pinched so much worse that expected so they had to go extremely slow and very careful. Then they took him in to Recovery and we were told that it would be about an hour or so and we would be able to be with him again… almost 3 hours later the brought him in to his room. Andy had an extremely hard time waking up and they had to watch his breathing because he keep dropping in to the low 70’s (anything under 90 is not very good).
Dr. Richie said that everything had gone very well and he was happy at the turn out. He said that Andy should be able to get up and walk a bit that night… Andy was having extremely bad pains in his legs and was not able to get out of bed. We found out that it was because his nerves had been pinched so bad for so long and Dr. Richie had to “wake them back up”. Andy was able to get out of bad and stand next to his bed on Friday, but was still not able to was due to pain. Friday night Andy was in a lot of pain so we called Grandpa Grass and one of Andy’s best friends Jose to come over and give him a blessing. It was such an amazing blessing. ( I cried but remember I am a baby LOL)
By Saturday he was able to walk from his bed to the bathroom, but by the time he got to the bathroom (about 10 steps away) he was hurting so bad he was still not able to leave his room. The nurses and Dr. Richie decided that Andy would need to stay in the hospital a bit longer.
On Sunday morning 2 Brothers and 2 Sisters from the Hospital Branch came to give us the Sacrament. I have never had that happen before. It was such an amazing experience and the Spirit was so strong that I again cried… Andy was able to walk to the bathroom a lot better Sunday, but still not able to walk out of the room. So they decided that Monday morning about 10am he could go home! We were so excited to be able to go home, but very scared because he has still having a lot of pain.
Andy asked Jose to come and help him get in the house because we have stairs and he knew that he was going to need help getting up them. I asked my brother-in-law if he could come over and help out also. When we got home we had 4 guys at the house waiting to help him in the house! It was so great to see how much people cared and were there to help us out. Andy has been laying in his recliner ever since. He is able to get up to use the restroom, but has to have help. Andy’s mom Peggy is going to be staying with us during the week for about 3 weeks to help Andy out.
On Wednesday Andy started having pains in his calf. He called Dr. Richie as he was instructed to do when he was in the hospital. Dr. Richie told Andy that he needed to go to the nearest ER immediately and have them do an Ultrasound to see if he had a blood clot. We were very lucky to find out that he did not have a clot at this time, but that we needed to keep watching his legs for any signs of more pain, discoloring, swelling, for numbness.
Andy is doing very well; we thank everyone for praying for him and also coming to see him in the hospital. You guys made the long 5 day stay in the hospital better for the both of us. Andy would still like to have people come and visit him at home as he is not able to leave the house yet. If you would like to give him a call or text him that would be great also! Again thank you so very much for praying and please keep it up as he is still not out of the woods for clots and infections.
I love you baby, You are the best friend I have ever had!
Today Andy is having his back surgery… Kinda scared but everything will be fine… Here are some pictures…
I got to give him hugs and kisses before they took him back… Mama Gras and I are just sitting here waiting for him to come out of the OR. We have been told that he is doing good and the breathing tube went in well.
I love you baby.
BANNED FROM WAL-MART…
This is why women should not take men shopping against their will.
After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Wal-Mart.
Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out.
Equally unfortunately, my wife is like most women – she loved to browse.
Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Wal-Mart:
Dear Mrs. Gilbert
Over the past six months, your husband has been causing quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against Mr. Gilbert are listed below and are documented by our
video surveillance cameras ..
1. June 15: Took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in people’s carts when they weren’t looking.
2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.
3. July 7: Made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women’s restroom.
4 July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, ‘Code 3 in Housewares. Get on it right away.’
5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&M’s on layaway.
6. August 14: Moved a ‘CAUTION – WET FLOOR’ sign to a carpeted area.
7. August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told other shoppers he’d
invite them in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department.
8. August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, ‘Why can’t you people just leave me alone?’
9. September 4: Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose.
10. September 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were.
11. October 3: Darted around the store suspiciously while loudly humming the ‘Mission Impossible’ theme.
12. October 6: In the auto department, he practiced his ‘Madonna look’ by using different sizes of funnels.
13. October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through yelled, ‘PICK ME! PICK ME!’
14. October 21: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed a fetal
position and screamed, ‘OH NO! IT’S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!’
And last, but not least…
15. October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, then yelled very
loudly, ‘Hey! There’s no toilet paper in here!’

Who said Monday codes were totally dead?
This week we have a special code that is not only working today (Monday), but also on Tuesday. This code works at all McDonald’s Redbox locations. (No McDonald’s nearby? Try another code from the Redbox Codes page.)
The code is: RBXMCD1
I have a brand new the seal is still on the plastic RANT from Sprint. I would like to sale it for $139.00 OBO
If you know of someone that is looking for a great phone (great to text with also) please let me know. I am willing to ship to any place in the US, but you will have to split the shipping cost with me.
Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil.
It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!
It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.
spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream; then beat them.
in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.
Heat leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove; set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the food channel and it really works.
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal; mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy; squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done – easy clean up.
When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size and get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.
Reheating refrigerated bread
To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave next to a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
Start putting torn newspaper in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants, overlapping as you go; cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic; they will not get through wet newspapers.
Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can’t see easily.
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket.
It will keep the mosquitoes away.
To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn’t hurt the plant and the squirrels won’t come near it.
To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and … ta da! … static is gone.
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don’t dry cup. Next, add your ingredient (peanut butter, honey, etc.) and watch how easily it comes right out.
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It’s cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It’s also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn’t like when you tried it in your hair.
To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2 with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it ‘home,’ can’t digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don’t have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!
The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load of clothes.) He took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material . I’m sure you know what your dryer’s lint filter looks like. Well … the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn’t go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh – that’s what burns out the heating unit.
You can’t SEE the film, but it’s there. It’s what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free. You know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box … well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it withhot soapy water and an old toothbrush at least every six months.
He said that increases the life of the dryer at least twice as long! How about that!?!
Learn something new everyday! I certainly didn’t know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I’d share!
Note: I went to my dryer and tested my screen by running water on it. The water ran through a little bit but mostly collected all the water in the mesh screen. I washed it with warm soapy water and a nylon brush and I had it done in 30 seconds. Then when
I rinsed it … the water ran right thru the screen! There wasn’t any puddling at all! That repairman knew what he was talking about!
NOT ONLY COULD IT SAVE SOMEONE’S HOME, BUT IT COULD SAVE a life!
We got to go on the PEAK family trip this past weekend. OMGosh it was so much fun! I love spending time with my family; we always stay up way late and play all kinds of games!
As Andy and I were driving to Grandmas house we saw this guy, I could not stop laughing at his racing gloves that he had on… LOL
We got to Grandmas and got the cars packed, when everyone got there (Marie and Kenn, Steven and his family and Andy and I) we all went to Grandma and Grandpa Greats grave site. I have not been there in almost 3 years:
We also put flowers on Aunt Marjorie, and Joe’s grave sites:
I thought that these froggies were so cute:
When we got to the resort we pulled out the camping chairs and hung out in the living room and did what we all do best (LOL) talk!
We talked for hours and also played games until WAY late Friday night. We got to play Phase 10 Twist. I have never played it before and I am now hooked! Andy and I will buy that game. Then Saturday morning Andy and I went fishing. It was a lot of fun hanging out relaxing looking at the beautiful view:
Andy and I right before my cell phone took a dip in the water… I was so sad!
After fishing we went back to the resort and got in our swim suits and went to the pool with my uncle, aunt and their kids. We were only at the pool for about 20ish min when they closed the pool because of thunder. We found my other Aunt and Uncle and stat and talked to them. My Uncles and cousins played Soccer and Horse Shoes:
Andy and I got to hang out with my youngest cousin Jace, he loved playing with Andy. They made up riddles, and played all kinds of games. I love watching Andy play with kids, I know he is going to be a great dad when we have kids!
We got back to the room and played games again until about midnight! Then Andy and I went up to the bed room where Kenn and Marie were. We all stayed up and chatted and hung out even later:
Sunday we got up and went to church, then came back and took a nap then play Wii. It was fun watching Uncle Steven, Andy, Gray, Kenn and Jace playing Wii. I even played it bit… I did a boxing challenge and boxing lesson. I lost to Gray…(yep he’s 9)
Monday Andy and I got up early so that we could get home and go to a BBQ with Jose and his family. We took some pictures on the drive home:
By the time this weekend was over we were pooped!
